Curtis Mann (b. 1979, Dayton, OH) is an artist based in Chicago, IL & Los Angeles, CA and received his M.F.A from Columbia College in 2008. Curtis Mann’s photographs and sculptures contain fragments of scenes that are partially erased and obscured, torn or physically manipulated. Mann’s process draws attention to the artifice of the photographic medium by demonstrating the malleability of images. Mann has exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, IL), Centre Pompidou (Paris), The Armory Show and is currently working with three galleries nationally and internationally. Mann won the National Crystal Apple Award from the Society of Photographic Education and the Flash Forward Emerging Artist Award from the Magenta Foundation. In 2009, Aperture published an MP3 volume of Curtis Mann’s work with an essay by Rod Slemmons and his work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine.
Presented with support from the Joan Mitchell Center on Bayou Road and Tulane Graduate Studies Student Association.
